OTHER FESTIVITIES

Fasching - The big carnival parades are mainly found in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Mainz. But Munich, where carnival is called Fasching, also has something to offer: The traditional ‘Tanz der
Marktweiber’ (dance of the market women) at the Viktualienmarkt on Shrove Tuesday is also a big party happening every year.
Auer Dult - Three times a year, once each in spring, summer and autumn, nine days of strolling, looking, shopping and having fun. Maidult, Jakobidult and Kirchweihdult are cult events in Munich. A
fairground with rides and beer tent, many stalls with delicacies and handicrafts, an exciting antiques market and one of the largest tableware markets in Europe with porcelain from the
major manufacturers - all this makes the Auer Dult a unique place.
Oktoberfest Wiesn – The world-famous funfair traditionally commemorating the royal wedding in 1810. The festivities last for 2 weeks, ending 1st Sunday in October
November 11 - St. Martin’s Day
A day all young children look forward to. Every parish and/or Kindergarten has a parade in the early evening where the children carrying lanterns walk through the streets singing songs about St. Martin. The tradition for the adults is Martinsgans, roasted goose with red cabbage and dumplings.
Advent - The four weeks before Christmas are the time for the traditional Christmas markets, and baking Plätzchen (the traditional Christmas cookies).
